Veteran actress, Onyeka Onwenu, has passed on at the age of 72. She died in Lagos, on Tuesday (July 30, 2024), after performing at the 80th birthday party of Stella Okoli (MD, Emzor Pharmaceuticals). According to reports, she slumped after taking her seat, following her performance. She was immediately rushed to Reddington Specialist Hospital, where she eventually gave up the ghost.
The trailer of a new movie, God Calling, which was written and directed by Bodunrin 'BB' Sasore, has been released. God Calling is a faith-based movie, which explores what it would be like for Abraham or Elijah to be Nigerian in 2018. The cast of the movie include Zainab Balogun, Karibi Fubara, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Onyeka Onwenu, Nkem Owoh, Tina Mba, Patrick Diabuah, Seun Ajayi, and Eku Edewor.
A service of songs and tribute night was held on Monday (June 9, 2014), for late filmmaker and media entrepreneur, Amaka Igwe. She died in Enugu on April 29, 2014, at the age of 51, after suffering from an asthma attack. The service of songs was attended by many of her friends, associates, and collaborators.

Veteran actors, Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, and Onyeka Onwenu were honoured along with other dignitaries at a gala award night, which took place in London on March 11. The award night was organized by GLEEHD Foundation in partnership with the Commonwealth Democracy Initiative, ROSTRA Consulting & Amandla Consulting to recognize the contribution of eminent Nigerians and Nigeria’s emerging leaders. The event took place at the Sheraton Park Lane Mayfair Hotel, and it was part of activities held to mark the Nigerian Centenary.
