JETA AMATA HONOURED IN THE US

Ever since ace Nigerian director Jeta Amata released his movie Black Gold, he has been winning accolades for himself and his country. The most recent reward for his efforts came on Saturday (July 9, 2011) at the American Black International Film Festival in Miami, where Black Gold won the Special Grand Jury Prize.
The prize came with a cash award of $5000.

On July 2, 2011, Jeta Amata received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the United States Congress. The award, which was signed by Laura Richardson, the member of Congress representing California's 37th District reads:

"For his continued commitment to protect the Niger Delta and dedication to the film project Black Gold: The Struggle for the Niger Delta an epic expose that will enlighten the global community about the truths of the Niger Delta.

The movie Black Gold stars Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Hotel Rwanda, Wolverine, 24 (Season 7), Billy Zane (Titanic, Back to the Future), Susan Calys (Prison Break), Vivica Fox (Independence Day, Set it Off), Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break, The Celestine Prophecy) and Mbong Amata (Amazing Grace, Reloaded, Inale). The movie tells the story of a Niger Delta community's struggle against their own government and a multinational oil corporation, which has plundered their land and destroyed the environment.

Jeta's next movie, which will be titled Journeys of One, will focus on the  practices of multinational pharmaceutical companies in Africa. The movie will be executive produced by London-based Donald Ranvaud (City of God , The Constant Gardner). Jeta Amata is the son of renowned veteran actor and academician Zack Amata known most notably for his role as Mr. Okonzua in the 80's soap opera Behind the Clouds.
