GHETTO DREAMZ: WORK BEGINS ON DAGRIN MOVIE

At long last, work is set to begin on a movie on the life and times of late hip-hop sensation, DaGrin, who died in his prime as result of injuries sustained from a car accident in 2010. The movie will be directed by cutting edge director Daniel Ademinokan, who directed blockbusters such as Guilty Pleasures and Bursting Out. At the time of his death, DaGrin's career was on a meteoric rise. He had just released his album CEO, which is received nominations for a stunning number of awards. Lyrically gifted, with an incredibly smooth flow delivered in a unique mixture of English and vernacular (Yoruba), he was a much sought after collaborator. He collaborated on tracks with an incredible number of artistes - 9ice, Omawumi, General Pype, Kenny St. Brown, Oritse Femi, Sossick, Konga, Sheyman, and many more. Auditions to find a fresh face who will play the actor in the movie are slated for February 5. Fans of the late rapper will be watching closely to see if the producers of the movie will do justice to the memory of the late star.

Speaking on the movie, Ope Banwo of Stingomania records, whose company is bankrolling the production said that the movie is being produced as a way of immortalizing DaGrin. He said:

“Dagrin was an emerging star in the Nigerian music scene, it is only imperative for stakeholders in the industry to do something about memorializing his name in a constructive and enduring manner. There is need for something to be done to keep his hopes and dreams alive for the next generation of struggling and upcoming artistes.”

Stingomania Records has also come out to debunk claims that they are out to exploit the family of the late rapper. It has emerged that Ope Banwo has already met with the family of the late rapper who gave their consent to the movie. The famıly will get 20% of the gross profit from the movie. Also in the pipeline is a movie about reggae artiste Majek Fashek, courtesy of Charles Novia.
