SHOULD ACTRESSES CHANGE NAMES AFTER MARRIAGE?
After marriage, many actresses change their names. For instance, former Stephanie Okereke is now Stephanie Linus, former Funke Akindele is now Funke Oloyede, and former Uche Jombo is now Uche Jombo-Rodriguez. Some actresses keep their maiden names, for instance, Joke Silva, who has been married to Olu Jacobs for about 27 years. It has been argued that actresses work hard to gain recognition for their names, and they should not have to give up their name after marriage. What do you think?
I think they shld only add their hubby's name to their name

ReplyDeleteI believed they've worked very hard to make a name for themselves and that name should not be changed, they can add their hubby's name to theirs. or better still let the name be their screen name.

ReplyDeleteI think they can - and add their hubby name like ms Jombo not change it like Funke and Steph because I agree they work hard for their brand to change the whole name after marriage however adding your husband's name to yours is not bad.
ReplyDeleteI agreed with you all but in my own opinion you dont have to better still you can add the husband's name. Marrying someone doesn't mean you dont belong to yr parents anymore. You are still yr father's child and will always be, but you can still divorce yr husband and will want to change yr name again. so why bother?
ReplyDeleteThe name is a brand, it should not be changed. Joke Silva is married to Olu Jacobs, that is well known, but she still remains Joke Silva. Just because they are married does not mean she has to change her name.
ReplyDeleteI'm an actress and I would agree that it takes a lot of work to build your name recognition, and unless the husband-to-be has a household name, it can be very difficult to rebuild that recognition. When I get married I hope to use a hyphenated last name. But I have no problem with my kids using my husbands name only.
