SUPPORTING ACTRESS AWARD TOO SMALL FOR OMOTOLA?
Star actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was recently nominated for the AMAA award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Also nominated in the same category are Empress Njamah, Ngozi Ezeonu, Thelma Okoduwa, Ebbe Bassey, and Terry Phaeto. However, some people are of the opinion that an award for supporting actress is too small for an actress of her stature. In your opinion, do you think an award for supporting actress is too small for an actress like Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde?

If the role was a supporting role, what's the problem?
ReplyDeleteThe key word is best actress, the role itself is irrelevant!

ReplyDeletethere is nothing wrong... i hav watch a Chinese movie where Jackie Chan played a supporting role and the movie was nominated for an award but he got the supporting role award.. I think sometimes the big faces should allow smaller faces to come in.
ReplyDeletePeople are not nominated based on status but by their performance in interpreting the role played in the movie or movies sent in for award. If she did well in a supporting role she played what is wrong wit that? That she was nominated is a sign that she still has more to offer and so should be valued. Let it be of note that she cannot be nominated for a supporting role if she didn't play a supporting role in the movie she is nominated for. For me this question shouldn't arise in the first place. This is my professional submission.

I don't see anything wrong with Omotola being nominated for this particular award. Someone is nominated for an award based on their performance on a particular role and not because of their status. I was surprise at this question.
ReplyDeleteIt's only in Africa that such a nonsense question would arise. The category is Best Actress in a Supporting Role...it has nothing to do with the caliber or stature of the actress or actor...it has nothing to do with the stature of the other nominees...it has to do with how he or she was able to transform the role for those watching to feel the realty of it...if Omotola's role as a supporting actress was deemed worthy of such an award, then that is why she was nominated...the thinking that she is too big for that is just down right stupid...she is an actress and nomiating her for an award is how she and other actors are recognized in their field...
ReplyDeleteIts not bad for her to be nominated for a supporting role..the point is that she is being recognised in d industry..
ReplyDeleteStupid question! Nominations r based on d roles played. If she played a supporting role in d movie what do u want them to nominate her for? Only in Africa will such a question be asked!!!! SMH!!
ReplyDeletePlease oooo.even Nollywood shld knw dat its too small for her class and her level right now. U shldnt even have nominated her at all if dat was d best nomination Nollywood can come up with..haba nija
