In a sad development, the wife and child of top Nollywood actor and comedian John Okafor (aka Mr. Ibu), as well as two of his in-laws, were on Monday (January 3rd) abducted. The family were abducted in Enugu, while driving home. According to reports, they were driven of by masked men, in the car which John Okafor's wife was driving at the time. The car was later abandoned by the kidnappers, and the two in-laws (a boy and a girl) were also left to escape.Ransom Demand
The kidnappers initially requested a ransom of 50 million for the return of John Okafor's wife, as well as his baby who is just 14 months old. However, they are said to have reduced this amount to 6 million following appeals by John Okafor. All efforts to get the kidnappers to reduce the ransom demand seems to have fallen on deaf ears. According to John:
“I am in touch with them, even before your call came in, we just finished talking and they are seriously demanding N6 million and nothing less before they could release my people. I’ve pleaded with them; I wish they will hear my cry and release them,”
John Okafor has expressed serious concern about the welfare of his wife and 14-month old baby, saying:
" Right now, I'm just begging them to release my wife and son. My son is just a year and two months old, so he is too young to be going through this."
He is said to be currently working hard to raise the ransom payment.
It will be recalled that in 2008, John Okafor was abducted while making his way to a film location in Imo State. On that occasion, he was released without any ransom payment, after being forced to make derogatory remarks about the Nigerian president as at then.
My goodness! Jesus save them. My prayers go up for Mr.John Okafor and family. I watch him in his movies in America. Please spare their lives and release them. Think of your own family. Is money tha important to you? Please let them go.
