Nollywood star, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, received a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement award at the just concluded Africa Movie Academy Awards, which took placce in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, last Saturday (May 24, 2014). The actor showed an early interest in acting, and he studied Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt. He was a cast member of the popular 90s soap opera, Checkmate, which was produced by the late Amaka Igwe. He starred in Living in Bondage, which is widely regarded as the first Nollywood movie.
The movie, Accident, which was directed by acclaimed Nollywood director, Teco Benson, has won the AMAA 2014 award for Best Nigerian Film. The director, Teco Benson, received the award in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Saturday (May 25, 2014) at the AMAA award ceremony. He dedicated the award to his late brother, Chinedu, and innocent lives lost to terrorism. Accident stars Chioma Akpotha, Kalu Ikeagwu, Frederick Leonard, and Wale Macaulay.
Veteran actress, Clarion Chukwurah, last night won the AMAA award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, for her performance in the movie Apaye. She bested Uche Nnadili, Linda Sokhulu, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Joselyn Dumas, Uche Jombo-Rodriquez, Monalisa Chinda and Daniella Okeke to win the award. This will be her first time of winning the prestigious AMAA award. It is a befitting accolade for this committed actress, who is unarguably one of the best that Nigeria has produced till date. We say a big congratulations to her on this well-deserved award.
Nollywood star, Patience Ozokwo, last night, won the the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards 2014, which took place in Bayelsa State. She bested Barbara Soky, Vinaya Sungkur, Marie Humbert, and Lee-Ann van Rooi, who were also nominated, to win the award. This will be the first AMAA award for the veteran Nollywood actress. We say congratulations to her.
Nollywood stars have been arriving in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, ahead of the Africa Movie Academy Awards, which takes place tomorrow (May 24, 2014) at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre. Some of those already in Yenagoa are Patience Ozokwo, OC Ukeje, Teco Benson, Blossom Chukwujekwu, and Bayryay McNwizu.
The AMAA Awards has come and gone, but memories of it will linger. The award ceremony was held on Sunday (April 22, 2012). It was attended by guests from all over the world, including movie stars and film-makers from across Africa.
