The premiere of the much talked about film, Akan took place in Uyo recently and was a resounding success. The main actors Alex Ekubo, Venita Akpofure, Grace Johnson, all flew in from Lagos to walk the red carpet and lend their support to the movie. Akan is a family drama about a young man who comes back home from abroad with his fiancée Sophie to settle but he faces resistance from his family who want him to settle with someone local. The film was directed by Desmond Elliot and produced by Archie Sam. Archie who was very delighted with the turn out, said the film, which will only be screened in Uyo and later Calabar, is a family drama that explores the issue of what is suitable 'wife material' in Nigeria. The movie was recently nominated for the 2014 GIAMA award under the category, Best Indigenous film.
