The Court of Appeal, Lagos, last Friday (May 31), ruled in favour of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in a case brought before it, challenging the award of N25m in damages to Nollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina (Baba Suwe), by a Lagos high court. The NDLEA detained the actor for 23 days in 2011, on suspicion of ingesting and attempting to traffic hard drugs.
However, the agency was unable to detect any drugs in the system of the actor after 23 days of detention. Following his release, he instituted a lawsuit against the NDLEA at a Lagos high court, which found in his favour, and asked the NDLEA to pay him N25m in damages. It was this ruling, which was overturned last Friday, by the Lagos Court of Appeal.
I advise that; As Baba had been discharge from the hands of his enemies he should forgive and see his cup running over. I tell you that compensation will not do anything to honorr.
ReplyDeleteWhat was he thinking, that naija govt will actually pay that much compensation. For what? Baba Suwe should cut his losses and head home.
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous, what do you mean he should head home? Do you know what it really feels like to be humiliated and detained for three weeks? The damages done to his person is worth more than the amount he is suing for and he is suing the Govt. 4 crying out loud who is disposed of paying him such amount of damages. People like you will equally say Baba Suwe should be sentenced to life imprisonment if he were to be found guilty of Drug traffiking. Please show him some respect, he really has suffered a huge damage to his personality.
DeleteHe should immedietly proceed to supreme court he sure needs to be payed for such a huge damage done to his integrity. Having detained him for such number of days. What if does drugs were actually found in his system, would the Govt. Pardon him? Hell no. There would have said, he is guilty and should face the real wrath of the law.
