UPCOMING FILM PREMIERES & RELEASES

There are still several major film premieres and releases being expected in 2011 and early 2012. These include movies from Funke Akindele, Ini Edo-Ehiagwina and Emem Isong, Leila Djansi, Blessing Effiom Egbe, Chinwe Egwuagu, and Paul Apel.
Following is a roundup of several major film premieres/releases expected in 2011, and early 2012.


The Return of Jenifa (TROJ) - Oct. 7, 2011
The Return of Jenifa, is a comedy produced by star actress, Funke Akindele and directed by Muyideen Ayinde. The movie features Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Ireti Osayemi, Ronke Ojo, Yinka Quadri, and Antar Laniyan. There are also cameo appearances by a number of celebrities, including Banky W, eLDee, Omawumi Megbele, and Denrele Edun. The New York premiere of the movie took place at the Thalia Theatre on Saturday, September 3, 2011. The premiere in Nigeria comes up at the MUSON centre on Friday, October 7, 2011

I'll Take My Chances- Sept. 23, 2011
I'll Take My Chances is a dance movie produced by star actress, Ini Edo, and prolific producer, Emem Isong. It was directed by Desmond Elliot and it features Ini Edo, Bryan Okwara, Ini Ikpe, and the late Sam Loco. The movie tells the story of I.K (Bryan Okwara) a young Theatre Arts graduate who returns to Nigeria with his American girlfriend (Ashleigh Clark)He falls in love with Idara (Ini Edo), who has been selected to be the next High Priestess of Unek, a deity that is worshipped through dance. Before long, Idara has to chose between her love for Osa, and  the call of duty. The movie premieres in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state (Nigeria) on Friday, September 23. It will be in cinemas in December 2011.

Sinking Sands- Oct. 14, 2011
Sinking Sands is a movie produced by Tonita Perry, and directed by Leila Djansi. It features Yemi Blaq, Jimmy Jean-Louis, and Ama K Abebrese. The movie tells the story of Jimah and Pabi, who seem to be a match made in heaven until a domestic accident turns their loving marriage into one of violence and abuse. Pabi, the woman at the center of the controversy must choose between love and life, companionship and independence. What will she choose? Sinking Sands, which features Yemi Blaq in an intense and spectacular performance, hits Nigerian Cinemas on Friday, October 14, 2011.

Two Brides and a Baby - Nov. 17, 2011
Two Brides and a Baby is a romantic comedy written and produced by Blessing Effiom Egbe, It was directed by ace director, Teco Benson, and it features Stella Damasus, Kalu Ikeagwu, Keira Hewatch, OC Ukeje, Chelsea Eze, Blessing Effiom Egbe, Okey Uzoeshi and Kehinde Bankole.   The movie tells the story of Keche and Bankole who planned for a beautiful wedding ceremony. On the day before the wedding, at the wedding rehearsal, the groom's ex girlfriend shows up, bringing along a basket full of drama! The film will be premiered at Genesis Cinemas in Lekki (Lagos, Nigeria), Friday, September 17, 2011. It will be released to the cinemas immediately following the premiere.

Mr. & Mrs - Dec. 2, 2011
Mr. and Mrs. is a movie produced by Chinwe Egwuagu and directed by Ikechukwu Onyeka. It features Nse Ikpe-Etim, Joseph Benjamin, Paul Apel, Thelma Ojiji, and Barbary Soky. In the movie,  plays Kenneth (Joseph Benjamin), is embarrassed by the poor background of his wife (Nse Ikpe-Etim), whom he keeps out of sight by relegating her to the kitchen. On the other hand, Linda (Thelma Ojiji) and Charles (Paul Apel) seem to have a perfect marriage. However, things start to go wrong, when Linda, who takes care of the bills, begins to take her husband for granted. Mr. & Mrs. will be premiered at the Silverbird Galleria in Lagos on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011. There are plans to screen it in South Africa this month.

90Ninth Day - Jan. 27, 2012
90Ninth Day is a movie produced and directed by Paul Apel. It stars Bimbo Akintola, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey,  Paul Apel, Stephanie Apel, and Orduen Apel. The movie tells the story of Engineer Jack who is awarded a power plant contract by the government. This begins a chain of treacherous and tragic events for him and his family. Susan (Bimbo Akintola) who lost out of the bid embarks on a blind revenge. In the dangerous triangle is one of Jack's friends Col. Ben (Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey) whose obsession with becoming an army general turns him into a psychopath. This thriller is scheduled to hit the cinemas, Friday, Jan. 27, 2012.
