KUNLE AFOLAYAN STEPS UP - BIG TIME!

Many more rewards are pouring in for the multiple awards-winning actor, producer and director, Kunle Afolayan as he announces the formal opening of his new office and the launch of new state-of-the-art production equipment on Friday 19 August, 2011. 

Coming back to back his emergence as a new Brand Ambassador for Glo, Nigeria’s leading mobile telecommunications firm, Kunle also announces the commencement of shoot for his new movie, Phone Swap. The movie is a joint production by Golden Effects Services Limited and 1960 Media.

Only few weeks ago in Lagos, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched another of his works, Breeze, which he was commissioned to produce and direct as part of effort by the Commission to encourage families and in particular women to save and invest.  

Speaking about his latest huge investment, Afolayan said he was motivated by the need to strengthen the capacity of film makers in Nigeria as well as create the kind of leverage that will make the Nigeria movie industry to continue to compete favourably with similar sector globally.

While revealing that one of the newly acquired equipment is the latest version of Red One Mysterium X Camera, he said both the new office and studio will serve as the production and post-production hub for most movie makers and producers, thus saving the country huge capital that usually goes to foreign countries.

“Our latest investment in the new office and equipment underlines our commitment to the growth of the movie industry not only in Nigeria, but globally. Red One Mysterium X Camera is one of the newly released HD cameras that will boost the production of motion pictures in Nigeria. As a full component studio, we also have the full rig which comes with both zoom and super fast lenses as well as other equipment aimed at making our industry one of the best,’’ Afolayan said.

On the new movie, he stated that the cast are made up of star actors and actresses, assuring movie lovers at home and abroad that the film is another best from him that they should watch out for.

Arguably Nigeria’s most decorated actor cum producer/director, Kunle’s works have won many local and international awards. Among them are Best Actor, Afro Hollywood Award UK 2004; Best Actor, Best of Nollywood Award 2008 and Best Director, Best of Nollywood Award 2010.

Others are Best Director, Nigeria Entertainment Awards NY; Best Director and Best Producer respectively, City People Awards of Excellence 2010; Best Film, African Movie Academy Awards 2010; Best Film, City People Entertainment Awards 2010; Best Filmmaker – Nigeria, Heart of Africa 2010 as well as Honourary Mention, Pan African Film Festival Los Angeles 2011. Notable among his movies are Irapada (The Redemption) and Figurine (Araromire).
