Chioma Akpotha is an indigene of Oraifite in Anambra State (Nigeria). She was born in Surulere, Lagos on March 12, 1980 to Chief and Mrs. Ndukaife Chukwuka. She comes from a family of 14. Her dad has two wives, and she is the second of six children from her mother.She had her primary education at Onward Nursey and Primary School in Lagos. She proceeded to Federal Girls College, Onitsha in Anambra State for her secondary education. She studied Banking and Finance at Lagos State University (LASU). While at LASU, she was a member of the choir at Paul Adefarasin's church, House on the Rock. She was also a backup singer for Sammy Okposo's Ex-Generation band.
She attended her first audition in 1998, when she was about 18 years of age. She landed her first major role in the year 2000, when she appeared in the movie, The Apple The movie was directed by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, and produced by Theodore Anyanji. She was about 20 years of age at the time, and she played the part of a 17-year old girl, who felt she was grown-up enough to get married. Since then she has starred in many more movies, and has gone on to become a fan favorite. Some of the movies, which she has starred in include Double Game, Games Men Play, Royal Doom, Total Crisis, Royal Insult, Eagles Bride, Azima, and The Bridesmaid.
In the year 2007, she won the AMAA award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the movie Sins of the Flesh. The movie was directed by Tchidi Chikere, and it also starred Francis Duru, Rita Edochie, and Obi Okolie. In the year 2009, she was name a brand Ambassador for Nigerian telecommunications giant, Globacom. In the year 2010, she won Best Actress (English Language) at the African Film Awards (UK).
Beautiful and talented, Chioma is a hardworking and versatile actress, although she is most often cast in the role of "good woman" or "long-suffering woman" in most of her movies. She enjoys singing, dancing,cooking and meeting new people.
On February 26, 2006, Chioma got married to her husband Franklin Akpotha, and their marriage is blessed with two kids.
